If you’ve ever booked a Disney Cruise that stops in Nassau, there’s a good chance you’ve asked the same question I hear from clients all the time: “Is Nassau worth getting off the ship for?”

I think that’s a fair question. Nassau can be one of those ports that people feel very differently about. Some guests are excited to explore, book a beach day, or head to Atlantis. Others look at the itinerary and immediately decide it’s the perfect day to stay onboard and enjoy a quieter ship.

Others feel like it’s the least exciting stop on the itinerary and would rather spend that time enjoying the ship with shorter lines and fewer crowds.

Both perspectives are valid. Nassau isn’t Castaway Cay, and it isn’t Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. It’s a different kind of port stop, and I think it helps to approach it that way.

So...Is Nassau Worth Getting Off the Ship For?

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.

If you’ve never been to Nassau before, if you’ve booked an excursion you’re excited about, or if your family really wants a beach or waterpark day, then yes, I absolutely think Nassau can be worth getting off the ship for.

But if you’re cruising mostly for the ship itself, if you’ve already been to Nassau several times, or if the idea of a low-key day onboard sounds more appealing than navigating another port, staying on the ship can also be a fantastic choice.

And that’s the beauty of a Disney cruise. There’s no rule that says you have to get off the ship at every port.

If your itinerary only includes one Disney island stop or if you just love beach time, Nassau can be a great chance to add another day in the sun.

2. You’ve Always Wanted to Visit Atlantis

For many families, Atlantis is the big draw in Nassau. If a waterpark day, aquarium visit, or resort experience sounds fun to you, Nassau may absolutely be worth it.

3. You Want a Change of Pace

Some families love the balance of a cruise itinerary that includes both ship time and time exploring a port. Nassau can break up the rhythm of the cruise and give you something a little different.

4. You’ve Found an Excursion That Fits Your Family

Sometimes the answer really comes down to the excursion. If you’ve found a beach break, dolphin encounter, snorkeling trip, or resort day that feels like a good fit for your group, Nassau can be a fun stop.

When I Think Staying Onboard Makes More Sense

1. You’ve Been to Nassau Before and Nothing Is Calling to You

If this isn’t your first Nassau stop and you don’t have a specific excursion or beach day you’re excited about, it may not be worth spending the money or energy just to say you got off the ship.

2. You Want to Enjoy a Quieter Ship

This is one of my favorite reasons to stay onboard. When a large number of guests get off in Nassau, the ship can feel much more relaxed. Pools, splash areas, lounges, and even lunch can feel a little easier and less crowded.

3. You’re Traveling with Very Young Kids and Don’t Want to Add Another “Big Outing”

Sometimes with toddlers or preschoolers, keeping the day simple is the better choice. A ship day with naps, pool time, and no transportation logistics can be much more enjoyable than trying to force a port day that doesn’t really fit your family.

4. You’re Treating Nassau as Your Rest Day

Some families use Nassau as the day they slow down. Sleep in, enjoy brunch or lunch onboard, let the kids swim, grab a drink, and just enjoy the ship. Honestly? That can be a really great use of the day.

When clients ask me whether they should get off the ship in Nassau, I usually start with a few questions:

• Have you been to Nassau before?

• Are you looking for beach time, sightseeing, or a waterpark day?

• Are you traveling with little kids, tweens, teens, or just adults?
