The Biggest Disney Cruise Line Announcements from D23 2026

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event wrapped up on August 16, and Disney Cruise Line fans have plenty to be excited about.

We received our first real look at the Disney Believe, learned more about the stories that will shape the ship, and discovered that an entirely new class of Disney cruise ships is coming beginning in 2029.

As someone who loves Disney Cruise Line, these announcements immediately caught my attention. They are not simply about adding more ships to the fleet. They give us our first glimpse at how Disney Cruise Line may continue expanding where it sails and the kinds of vacations it can offer.

Here are the two announcements I will be watching most closely.

Our First Look at the Disney Believe

The Disney Believe will begin sailing in late 2027 as the fourth ship in the same class as the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny.

Disney has already told us that the stories represented aboard the ship will include Moana, Encanto, Frozen, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and The Little Mermaid. We still have much more to learn about its restaurants, entertainment and individual spaces, but D23 gave us a beautiful first look at the heart of the ship.

A Moana-Inspired Grand Hall

The Grand Hall aboard the Disney Believe will celebrate the optimistic spirit of exploration found in Moana.

A bronze statue of Moana, accompanied by Pua and Heihei, will serve as a focal point of the space. Disney says the design will also include South Pacific influences and artisanal Polynesian finishes intended to honor the cultural traditions of the region.

The Grand Hall is more than an impressive lobby on Disney's newest ships. It serves as a gathering place, entertainment space and one of the first environments guests experience after boarding. The Moana theme feels especially fitting for a ship built around believing in yourself, exploring new horizons and answering the call to adventure.

Tinker Bell, Woody and Buzz Join the Ship's Exterior

The Disney Believe will continue Disney Cruise Line's tradition of adding unique character artwork to each ship.

Tinker Bell will appear in the filigree on the bow as she looked in Disney's 1953 animated classic Peter Pan. She will be surrounded by silhouettes of Peter Pan, Wendy, Captain Hook and other characters flying through the design.

On the stern, Woody and Buzz Lightyear will use giant yellow crayons to create the Disney Believe's name in playful, block-style lettering inspired by Toy Story.

These details do not tell us everything about the onboard experience, but they begin to give the ship its own personality.

More Disney Believe News Is Coming October 7

The part I am personally most excited about is that I will be aboard the Disney Wish on October 7 for the official Disney Believe reveal.

Disney Cruise Line plans to share much more about the newest ship, and I will be there to follow along. As new spaces, dining experiences, entertainment and other details are revealed, I will share what we learn and what it may mean for families interested in the Disney Believe's inaugural season.

An Entirely New Class of Disney Cruise Ships Is Coming

The Disney Believe was not the only major cruise announcement at D23.

Disney Cruise Line also shared a first look at three ships in an entirely new class, with the first scheduled to arrive in 2029.

These will not be additional Wish-class ships. Disney says the new vessels will fall between its classic ships, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, and its newer ships in size.

That middle ground may be one of the most meaningful parts of the announcement.

Why a Different Ship Size Matters

Disney specifically connected the new ship design to the possibility of reaching new places and new audiences around the world.

Ship size can affect which ports a vessel can visit and which itineraries are possible. A class that is smaller than the newest Disney ships may give Disney Cruise Line more flexibility as it develops future routes.

Disney has not announced the ships' names, home ports or itineraries, so it is far too soon to claim exactly where they will sail. However, the possibility of Disney Cruise Line reaching new destinations may be even more exciting than the ships themselves.

For cruisers who love Disney's service and onboard storytelling but want to see more of the world, this is an announcement worth watching.

Disney Cruise Line Is Growing to 13 Ships

Disney previously announced plans to expand its fleet to 13 ships over the coming years.

That growth includes the Disney Believe in 2027 and the three ships in the new class beginning in 2029. It is an extraordinary expansion for a cruise line that operated only four ships for many years.

More ships can eventually mean:

• More departure ports

• More itinerary choices

• More destinations around the world

• More opportunities to match a Disney cruise with different travel styles

The important word is eventually. Most of those details have not been announced yet, and new ships do not automatically tell us where they will sail. For now, we know Disney is building the flexibility to do more.

What These Announcements Mean for Future Disney Cruise Guests

If you are hoping to sail on the Disney Believe, we still need its inaugural itineraries, pricing and booking dates before making specific plans. If you are excited by the new class of ships, the wait will be even longer. The first ship is not expected until 2029, and Disney has much more to reveal.

That does not mean you should postpone a Disney cruise you are already considering. The current fleet offers distinct ships, destinations and experiences right now. These D23 announcements simply give us more to look forward to in the future.

My best advice is to separate the excitement of a newly announced ship from the practical details required to book it. Once Disney releases itineraries and booking information, we can compare the new options with the ships already sailing and decide which experience is truly the right fit.

The Future of Disney Cruising Is About More Than Bigger Ships

My biggest takeaway from D23 is that Disney Cruise Line's future is not simply about adding more ships.

The Disney Believe will bring familiar Disney storytelling to a brand-new ship in 2027. Then the new class arriving beginning in 2029 may give Disney greater freedom to explore different destinations and create new kinds of itineraries.
